Philanthropy
Supporting The Causes That Matter Most.
Philanthropy can be a meaningful part of how you use your wealth to reflect your values, support your community, and create a lasting legacy. At Markham Financial Services, we believe giving back deserves the same thoughtful planning as any other important financial decision. Whether that means supporting charitable organizations personally or helping clients give more intentionally, we help connect generosity with strategy.
Giving Back Through Caring Cetera.
Andrew is proud to be part of Caring Cetera, Cetera’s charitable initiative focused on making a positive difference in the lives of others. It reflects a shared belief that financial success can be used for something bigger, helping extend care and support beyond the office and into the communities where it matters most.
Supporting the Mission of the MS Society.
Giving back also includes supporting organizations committed to improving lives through advocacy, research, and care. For nearly 15 years, Andrew has supported the National Multiple Sclerosis Society by participating in its annual MS Bay to Bay Bike Tour and raising funds for the organization’s work. Efforts like these reflect the idea that philanthropy is not only about financial contributions, but also about giving time, raising awareness, and supporting work that can make a meaningful difference.
Turn Generosity Into A Lasting Legacy.
Many clients want their wealth to do more than support their own lives and families. They want it to make a difference. We help facilitate that passion for giving through charitable planning strategies that can align generosity with broader financial, tax, and legacy goals, so clients can support the causes they care about in a thoughtful and lasting way.
Gifting Strategies
Charitable gifting strategies can help clients give in ways that are both meaningful and intentional. With the right planning, giving can become a natural extension of a broader wealth and legacy strategy.
Donor Advised Funds
Donor advised funds can offer a flexible way to support charitable causes over time while creating opportunities for more organized giving. They can be a useful option for clients who want to build philanthropy into their long-term planning.
Trusts
For some clients, trusts may play a role in charitable and legacy planning. Depending on the situation, trust-based strategies can help support giving goals while also considering family priorities, tax efficiency, and long-term stewardship.
Other Methods
Charitable planning is not one-size-fits-all. We help clients explore a range of giving methods based on their goals, values, and overall financial picture so their generosity can be expressed in a way that feels personal and effective.
[1] Generally, a donor advised fund is a separately identified fund or account that is maintained and operated by a section 501(c)(3) organization, which is called a sponsoring organization. Each account is composed of contributions made by individual donors. Once the donor makes the contribution, the organization has legal control over it. However, the donor, or the donor's representative, retains advisory privileges with respect to the distribution of funds and the investment of assets in the account. Donors take a tax deduction for all contributions at the time they are made, even though the money may not be dispersed to a charity until much later.
